# Runway Gen-4.5: capabilities, access and practical workflow

A candidate for short directed shots with text or a starting image. The help page specifies 2–10-second generations and a web credit rate.

## Verified specification snapshot

| Field | Published information |
| --- | --- |
| Provider | Runway |
| Single-pass generation | Up to 10 seconds; mode and access conditions apply |
| Resolution | 720p base output |
| Audio | Not confirmed in the cited model specification |
| Direction and references | Text-to-video and image-to-video |
| Access | Web; Standard plan and higher |
| Billing | 12 credits per generated second on web |

Important limit: A web-plan credit rate is not an API dollar quote. Audio tools elsewhere in the platform do not establish native audio support for this model.

## Choose text or an image based on what must be fixed

Use text when you want to explore the composition as well as the action. Use an image when the starting composition and visible subject are already important to the job. In either case, describe a clear action and camera behavior rather than listing many loosely related visual adjectives.

For an image-led product shot, a practical first instruction is: “The camera slowly tracks from left to right while the cup remains still; soft window light stays constant.” That is an original test prompt, not a verified generated result. Inspect whether the image’s defining geometry survives the movement.

## Credit arithmetic for a small shot list

At the published web rate of 12 credits per generated second, one 5-second attempt uses 60 credits and one 10-second attempt uses 120 credits. Six 5-second attempts total 360 credits before any extra export charges. These figures describe the documented rate, not a promise about subscription value or API pricing.

If only two of those six attempts are approved, your observed cost is 180 credits per accepted 5-second clip. Record failed and rejected attempts as well as favorites. Our cost calculator can model this acceptance rate with a price you supply; it does not fetch your account balance or convert credits without your input.

## Check the base generation and final export separately

The cited help page lists 720p output and 24 or 25 fps, with supported aspect ratios varying by input mode. Use that information to plan a test, then inspect your chosen settings in the actual tool. Export controls and optional processing can change what appears in the downloaded file.

Before approving a shot, check hands, reflections, small objects and any text-like surfaces. View it at normal speed and frame by frame around the main action. If the output is a background plate, reserve negative space for real typography in your editor rather than relying on generated lettering.

## Decide using your own accepted shots

Our workflow recommendation is an editorial inference from the documented controls. We have not run a controlled benchmark or purchased a test batch for this guide. Compare the same required scene across the tools you can actually access, then record acceptance rate, edit time and total cost.

Keep a usable shot only when it meets the brief at delivery size. A model with a smaller advertised limit can still be a practical choice for a short project. For a fair test, keep the required subject, action and framing consistent while adapting syntax to each tool’s documented controls.

## Compare the task, then the alternative

Google’s Omni guide describes conversational changes and explicitly labels higher-resolution exports as upscaled. [Source ↗](https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/omni) Luma’s current information describes footage modification and HDR/EXR workflows. [Source ↗](https://lumalabs.ai/llm-info)

These are different production capabilities, not evidence of a quality winner. Add an alternative to your shortlist only when it supports an important requirement of your shot. Use the directory to examine the details before starting a paid pilot.
